Thanks for stopping by! That slide is a reference to teachers or institutions who use graded readers but don’t expect their students to read large amounts (the ‘we ask our students to read three books per semester’ type of situation). The mere act of using graded readers is not in itself extensive reading in my book. Yet because they are using graded readers, both schools and students sometimes think they are doing extensive reading (we get this sometimes in our student surveys: students say they did extensive reading in high school but when we follow up they mean they read one graded reader in the summer holidays).
